SOP

Service
- Work until we meet
- Number of services
- Vouchers – be aware and inform pax
- Take turns to strip
- Give pax time to eat before stripping ± 10 minutes after service
- ICFA make announcement for cash up
Catering
- Report any breakages, dodgy food
- Ensure all items are returned and trolleys are sealed correctly
- Ice – Let ICFA know before landing if ice required JNB, CPT, DUR
In-Flight Procedures
- Check cabin every 10-15 minutes
- Attend to call bells promptly and reset them
- Avoid pressing the call bells too many times for catering
- Overhead stowages must be closed during the flight (esp. 400)
- Monitor cabin temperature
- Lavatories must be stocked and clean
- Pay attention to all announcements – they could be important
Turbulence / Seatbelt Signs
- ALWAYS check seatbelts when turned on, no matter how many times it happens – CAA inspector on board
Turnarounds
- Check cleaners permits
- Assist cleaners – trash on aisle seat
- Check seat pockets
- Straighten headrest covers
- Ensure toilets are clean and stocked
- Procedure
- 1L/2L remain in galleys until all pax off
- After cleaner permits have been checked, cross seatbelts
- NB: Security checks after cleaners
In The Air
- Hear “This is the captain speaking, In-Charge Flight Attendant to the Flight Deck” X 2 over the PA
- 1L/1R enter the flight deck, if pilot incap 1R stay behind
- If not pilot incap, 1L to conduct TESTS briefing
- 1R, 2L & 2R to check doors are in correct mode, secure galleys, grab PELB and safety features card, meet at 1R.
- Sync watches, 1L relay TESTS briefing.
- Take up demo positions – rows 1, 14, 24
- Follow PELB
On The Ground
- After a/c comes to a complete stop and no comms from flight deck, 15 seconds after engine shutdown, 1L to enter flight deck.
- 1R, 2L, 2R to remain at stations and continue silent review.
- Await further instruction from the captain
EVACUATION
- If needed, “This is the captain speaking – EVACUATE, EVACUATE, EVACUATE”
- If life in immediate danger, initiate evacuation
- If one evacuates, everyone evacuates
- Make sure engines are shutdown and check outside conditions
Rapid Decompression
Initital Actions
- “This is the captain speaking - rapid descent, rapid descent”
- Wedge trolley and engage the brakes
- Grab nearest oxygen mask and sit (even on passenger’s lap)
- Be aware of infants
- Commence shouted commands: FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT, PULL MASK DOWN, PLACE OVER NOSE & MOUTH, HELP OTHERS AROUND YOU.
When a/c levels off at a safe altitude and captain says “Flight Attendants, Resume Your Duties”
- Check on flight deck
- Check on each other
- Check on passengers
- Check on state of the a/c
- Prepare for possible emergency landing & TESTS briefing
- It doesn’t mean continue with service
Fires
- Raise alarm by pressing call bell on opposite side
- Person bringing extra equipment becomes Firefighter (with PBE)
- Person discovering fire becomes Back-Up
- Co-ordinator moves passengers, brings equipment and ice bucket
- Communicator communicates with FD using listen acronym
- L = Location
- I = Intensity
- S = Smoke
- T = Type of Fire
- E = Equipment Used
- N = Neutralised
- Shake oxygen off hair
- PBE in lavatory
Medicals
- Work together as a team
- Press call bell repeatedly to get assistance from crew
- If you step aside:
- Make announcement for medical assistance
- Bring extra equipment
- Take SAMPLE history
- Is the passenger travelling with someone?
- Communicate with the flight deck
- As far as possible, continue service and monitor pax
- If CPR is needed:
- 30 compressions, 2 breaths for:
- Gather information for IQSMS
- Snag PO2 in cabin defect logbook
